Oil Painting with Anne Spoon Fall 2021

“Oil Painting: Translating what’s in front of you into your own unique vision”

Instructor: Anne Spoon

September 20 – November 8, 2021

Mondays 6:00 pm – 8:15 pm

Many painters don’t paint what they see, but what they expect to see, what they remember, or what they imagine things are supposed to look like. Since “the mind stands in the way of the eye,” the purpose of this class is to teach you to see as an artist.
The fundamental lessons are for beginners and advanced artists. Through careful study and putting the right spot of color in the right place, you will create a realistic image of form, space, surface texture, atmosphere, light, and shade.
As you follow the painting projects you’ll make the dramatic discovery that everything in nature is filled with luminous color. You’ll learn to see glowing color in the “blackest” shadow and the “whitest” china.  You’ll learn when a blue can appear orange; how to use paint to replicate metal, glass, wood, paper, porcelain, and other opaque, transparent, or textured surfaces.
Days:  Monday evenings 6 pm – 8;15 pm
Dates:  September 20 – November 8, 2021

A supply list will be sent via email prior to the start of class.

$240 per student

About Anne Spoon:

My name is Anne Spoon, I was born in the Bronx, New York, grew up in the Hudson River Valley, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from The School of Visual Arts, NYC. Today I live in Oklahoma, yes, that is a long way from New York, but after 30 years this is home, and some of the things I love most in the world are right here.

I have spent the past two decades painting people, places and objects that have a quiet beauty, perhaps seemingly simple, and often overlooked until painted. I want those who view my paintings to see the world through the eyes of an artist. I want you to experience Autumn leaves in a swirling dervish, minnows just beneath the surface of a clear creek, an old dog sleeping in the sun, or a bottle stained with a kaleidoscope of age. These are the subjects that speak to my heart and remind me of moments of reflection, and if I’ve done my job yours as well.
