If you are interested in building your watercolor skills and learning the techniques of this master watercolor artist then this workshop is for you. Lian generously shares his knowledge, wisdom and expertise through a variety of exercises, demos, lectures and critiques.

“Color Pouring & Paint What You Want to See” is an unusual way of painting watercolor. Students will observe and learn techniques they most likely have not seen, but will be useful and applicable to their own artworks.

Lian teaches basic techniques such as compositions and coloring, and his unique methods including “Color Pouring and Blending” and “Paint Around (negative painting).” He shows how to mix colors on watercolor papers, as well as letting the pigments paint themselves.

Wednesday – Friday

September 1 – 4, 2020

There are 4-6 short demos each day with student practices between so you can absorb and assimilate the lessons. Students will complete one painting each day of the four-day workshop.
The time will be 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. with an hour for lunch.  Lian is in the Pacific time zone and is 2 hours behind us.  Lian will do several demos a day and after each demo, students will do the same thing.  Students will show their work to Lian by holding it in front of their computer camera and he will critique their work. If several students would like to take the workshop at the Art Center, we will set it up on the large screen TV.  Students may also participate from their homes and computers.

Lian Quan Zhen is an internationally known watercolor artist and teacher. Zhen started sketching and painting in his childhood and continued as a hobby while practicing medicine as a family physician in Canton Province, China. His paintings now hang in numerous institutional and private collections in the U.S.

He is known as a popular watercolor teacher and author of five bestselling books published by North Light Books. His art teaching credentials include the University of California at Berkeley where he taught watercolor outdoor sketching for 8 years; and sold-out watercolor and Chinese painting workshops throughout the United States and abroad.

Zhen lives in Las Vegas, NV. He will be the judge of BAA’s 67th Annual Spring Art Show & Sale.
